Agron Shujaku

Classical Piano

Agron Shujaku began his music education, specifically in piano, at the age of 10 under the guidance of teacher Letafete Ballata. From the very beginning, he stood out for his talent and dedication, participating in numerous concerts in Prishtina and Prizren, as well as on international stages in Slovenia (Vrhnika) and Serbia (Belgrade), as part of the event “Meetings of Music Schools of Former Yugoslavia.” For these early concert appearances, he received a special diploma of appreciation from the music school in 1989.

He began his secondary music education in the class of Prof. Dragoljub Apostolov (1991) and completed it in the class of Prof. Lejla Pula-Haxhiu. He continued his university studies at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Prishtina in the same professor’s class, graduating in 1997. During this time, he performed in numerous concerts organized by the faculty and the Kosovo Artists’ Association, being awarded the title “Outstanding Student.”

In 1995 and 1996, he participated in two jazz workshops organized by the SOROS Foundation in Subotica, as well as in a baroque music performance workshop in Belgrade, where he performed as a cimbalist. In 1997, he held a preparatory recital concert for the international “Nikolai Rubinstein” competition in Paris.

Since 1997, Shujaku has worked as a piano professor at the “Prenk Jakova” High School of Music in Prishtina and as a collaborative pianist at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Prishtina. His students remain active in both the national and international piano scene.

He has performed a large number of solo and chamber music concerts and has served as a répétiteur at important festivals such as “Bach Week,” “Remusica,” “Sounds of the Flute,” “Chamber Music Festival,” “Dam Festival,” and “ArsKosova.” In 2010, he gave a solo concert as part of the DAM Festival, presenting a specially curated repertoire for young audiences and classical music lovers.

He is the composer of the music for the films “Vula e Fatit” (2004) and “Mesazhi” (2009).

In 2008, he participated in the Golandsky Institute Symposium in New York, where he trained with Edna Golandsky on the Taubman Approach. This method was introduced for the first time in Kosovo by Dr. Shujaku through masterclasses and a thematic recital at the DAM Festival (2017).

He completed his master’s studies in 2011 at the “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University in Skopje, in the class of Prof. Todor Svetiev. He completed his doctoral studies in 2024 with the dissertation: “Beginner Piano Schools in Kosovo”, which was officially presented and defended on September 27, 2024. Related research presentations were made at the scientific conferences of the Faculty of Music in Skopje (2021 and 2022).

In 2012, he was awarded a state scholarship by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology for MBA studies at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom.

As a manager and supporter of youth, he led the competition “Pianisti I Ri” (The Young Pianist) for 7 editions (2015–2022) and since 2023 has served as the Artistic Director of the Siparantum Choir, with which he has developed an extensive concert activity and participated in festivals such as: World Choir Games (Belgium 2021, South Korea 2023), Choralspace Festival (Berlin 2022–2025), Lisbon Sings (2022), and Sing for Gold (Spain 2024).

Together with the Siparantum Choir, Shujaku has represented Kosovo in some of the most prestigious European concert halls, including the Berlin Philharmonic. Their most recent performance at the Berlin Philharmonic (2025) featured the piece “Zanat” by Kreshnik Aliçkaj with renowned violinist Sihana Badivuku. Concerts in cities like Lisbon, Basel, Nancy, Zagreb, Tuhelj, Rome, Shkodra, Tetovo, and Skopje have been realized as part of this artistic collaboration as pianist and choir répétiteur.

He has served as a jury member in international competitions of the “ArsKosova” association (2009, 2010), as well as in the 15th edition of the “Adilia Alieva International Piano Competition” in Geneva-France (2020).

He has collaborated with pianists Faton Hasani and Ledian Shala, giving successful concerts in cities across Kosovo (Prishtina, Peja, Mitrovica, Ferizaj, Suhareka) and North Macedonia (Kërçovë). In 2022, he also released a CD featuring works by Kosovar composers. In collaboration with soprano Vita Guhelli, he recorded the CDs “Albanian Romance” (2023) and “Nana” (2024). With Selvije Marteti, he realized the project “Albanian Art Songs” (2022), also released in CD format.

In 2023, he presented a detailed study on the effectiveness of Peter Feuchtwanger’s exercises in improving the technique of young pianists. The study was well received in academic circles as a practical and theoretical contribution to contemporary piano pedagogy. In 2024, he initiated the experimental project “Piano Yoga Workshop”, a case study exploring the impact of yoga-inspired exercises on coordination and physical freedom in performance. That same year, he published the educational video series “Coordinated Piano Technique”, consisting of 15 structured instructional videos aimed at helping students and teachers address technical piano challenges.

In 2025, he founded the digital platform “Ku Me Shku” for promoting cultural events. He also served as the editor of the book “24 Piano Works for Children” by composer Memli Kelmendi (2025).

He has also premiered several piano works by contemporary Kosovar composers, such as “Renuo” by Memli Kelmendi, performed as part of the “Young Europe in the Balkans” project (Skopje, 2018), thus contributing to the international affirmation of the new Albanian-Kosovar piano repertoire.

Shujaku’s activities and projects have been regularly covered by media and cultural portals like KultPlus, conveying enduring educational and artistic values to the Albanian-speaking public and beyond.
